A big milestone occured this weekend. I had run out of constructive things to do with the car up on the lift so I decided to mount some tires and “land it”.
That groaning noise is the lift, not the spirits of Etypes past! One reason I did this was to get an initial impression as to the front torson bar settings. I am reasonably happy with the stance. The front and rear ride heights were set using the dimensions proscribed in the workshop manual. Of course, I need to get some road miles on the car and let the suspension settle. Also, currently the car is shod with Vredestein 185-15 tires. The final assembly will use the period correct 6.40x 15 bias ply tires. These have a slightly larger diameter.
BTW, in order to load up the suspension, I have 5 gallons of coolant i.e. water on the bonnet, a 40 pound bag of wild bird seed in the boot i.e. the fuel, and some random metal plates in the floorboards to represent the 20 pound weight of the windscreen. I checked the vertical dimensions up to the bottom of the wheel arches and got about 23″ front and rear. I measured it again after removing the above items and it measured to about the same values
