Tyler Alexander – A Life and Times with McLaren

By Tyler Alexander

Hardback, 441 Pages, David Bull Publishing

First of all, David Bull does such a nice job!  They are really top shelf with impeccable writing and gorgeous photographs.  I have never been disappointed with a David Bull publication and this one is no exception.

The title says it all.  I didn’t know a whole lot about Tyler Alexander before I read this book but man, what a life he led.  He was in the thick of it with McLaren from the very beginning and stayed with them all the way through Louis Hamilton winning his  first Formula 1 World Championship.  If someone had told me at age 18 that I could spend my entire career at the highest levels of motorsports I would have said “The devil and my soul are involved in this somehow but I’m all in!”  Tyler did it and as far as I can tell he kept his soul intact.  It is also apparent that he racked up more air miles than I care to think about.  Jaunts from the UK to Japan were just another day at the office.  You get the sense that Tyler did what it took to get the job down with a minimum about of histrionics.

Reading through the Table of Contents I see the following keywords: McLaren, Daytona, Sebring, Can-Am, Formula One, Bruce, Revson, Indy, Fittipaldi, Hunt, Rutherford, Cosworth, BMW, CART, Lauda, Watson, Haas, Newman, Mario, Honda, Senna, Imola, Ilmor, Mansell, Hakkinen, Coulthard, Newey, Raikkonen, Montoya, Alonso, Hamilton.

My god! It’s just crazy what Tyler was involved with during his career.  Enough to appeal to every generation of reader, that’s for sure.

So yes, an excellent read. Check it out!
