The Porsche Rennsport Reunion is happening this coming weekend and I’m going! I’m pumped. This is my first time for a RR and I am definitely looking forward to it. With no disrespect to my fellow Jaguar aficionados, Porsche has a lot to offer when it comes to vintage events. They have performed at the highest levels on the world stage for decades. So they bring a tremendous amount of “cred” to any vintage event.
There are two things about his event that excite me. One, I lived in the SF bay area for short time, from 1975 to 1977. During that time I went to one event at Laguna Seca. I frankly can’t remember the actual event but I do remember how fascinating the track layout was. Of course, I’ve seen it many times since then on TV but I’ve never been back. Until now.
Second, from 1971 to 1975 I was a corner worker at Road Atlanta. And I clearly remember a Porsche 917 in blue and gold Sunoco livery, piloted by Mark Donehue, hurtling around that track at unbelievable speeds. I look forward to rekindling memories of those days in the 70’s when the 917 ruled Can-Am.
The cherry on the ice cream sundae is that I will be meeting up with some of my internet acquaintances. Thursday night is E-Type night in Mountain View, where I will be having dinner with a group of Jag-Lover denizens. And I have several agreements to meet with 944 and 928 folks at the RR. If you are going to be there, drop me an email at harvey.ferris@gmail.com.
Life is good. I’ll be posting pictures during the event. Stay tuned.
Harvey
